PLATTSBURGH POLICE DEPARTMENT

PRESS RELEASE

“Police arrest 2 people in possession of 170 bags of Fentanyl”

DATE OF RELEASE: March 30th, 2017

TIME OF RELEASE:  2:00 pm

As a result of an ongoing investigation into the trafficking and distribution of narcotics, on Wednesday March 29th, 2017 members of the Plattsburgh Police Department, with assistance from the New York State Police and the Adirondack DEA Task Force, stopped a vehicle on Prospect Ave., in the City of Plattsburgh. During the subsequent investigation officers located and seized 170 individually wrapped packets of Fentanyl; which is an opioid medication. The street value of the narcotics seized is approximately $18,000 dollars.

Fentanyl is the most potent opioid available for use in medical treatment 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, and 30 to 50 times more potent than heroin. Fentanyl is potentially lethal, even at very low levels. Ingestion of even small doses as small as 0.25 mg can be fatal. Its euphoric effects are indistinguishable from those of morphine or heroin.

The Plattsburgh Police department would like to caution our community and make clear that this drug is possibly being sold here. Heroin users who purchase this drug, which is packaged and sold as heroin, place themselves at significant risk of overdose and/or death. The packages seized are marked as “Easy Money” and “Bat Man”. Both logos are in blue on clear wax paper.

“I thank our City Police for their life-saving work. Never before has such concentrated drugs been confiscated here. There is an extremely high risk of overdose death when Fentanyl is packaged in such a high concentration. Their police work likely saved lives,” noted City of Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested the following individuals:

Michael Malseptic, age 22 of Flaglar Dr. Plattsburgh NY

Charged with: Criminal Possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree a class “B” felony

Malseptic appeared before the Hon. Mark Rogers in Plattsburgh City Court and was committed to the Clinton County Jail under $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

Kaleigh Filion, age 27 of the Laforest Rd., West Chazy NY

The Plattsburgh Police Department continues to work closely with the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office and area law enforcement agencies to combat the drug abuse issues our community continues to face on a daily basis.  Any information the public can offer is greatly appreciated.
