The City of Plattsburgh gears up for the Fourth Celebrations!

(PLATTSBURGH, NY - June 23, 2022) - The temperatures are rising and so are the number of exciting things to do in the City of Plattsburgh this summer! From First Friday, to The Fourth of July parade and free concert to Parks Come Alive and Mayor’s Cup - residents and visitors will have lots to do to kick off the start of summer!

Fourth of July Celebration

The City of Plattsburgh will be holding the Fourth of July parade on Monday July 4th, starting at 1PM. We are expecting over 25 floats to join the parade and embody this year’s parade theme: American Music! The deadline to register your group for the parade is Monday June 27th by 4:00PM.

Accessibility and inclusivity are important aspects of the Fourth parade so that all residents of Plattsburgh can enjoy the festivities. This year there will be a designated Accessibility Tent located on the North Lawn of City Hall. This area will provide an unobstructed view of the parade for folks who are wheelchair users or have mobility needs. In addition to the Accessibility Tent, a designated Quiet Zone will be established in front of Plattsburgh Pediatrics at the corner of Bridge and Jay Street. This area is designated for families and children with auditory sensitivities who require a quiet area to view the parade. Parade participants will not be playing music, blowing horns or sirens in this area.

“The reason a quiet zone is imperative to our family is because our son (Mason) has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), any loud noises, flashing lights or sirens is amplified by him ten fold. Even with noise canceling headphones, he is able to feel that sound in a more intense manner than a normal person. Having a quiet zone for parade events not only allows my wife and I to bring our family but many other families that also have similar disabilities to enjoy the show. We didn't have the choice for him to have ASD but do have a choice to turn off the noise for him/all to enjoy” says Nick Dumas, a resident of Plattsburgh.

Free Concert on the Steps of City Hall

Kevin Sabourin will kick off at 5:00PM followed by The Reflexions at 6:00PM. Annie in the Water will join the show at 7:30PM. The evening will close out with a fireworks display immediately following the performance, at approximately 9:00PM which will be viewable from Downtown Plattsburgh.

Parade routes, road closures and all other details about the Fourth Celebration will be on the City’s website- https://cityofplattsburgh-ny.gov/cityeventscalendar and facebook pages.
