Plattsburgh Municipal Beach Reopens Following Vandalism Incidents and

  Maintenance

The City of Plattsburgh is pleased to announce the reopening of the City of Plattsburgh Beach effective September 30, 2025, following a temporary closure due to acts of vandalism, dumping of garbage and scheduled maintenance.

We want to sincerely apologize to our community members, beachgoers, and visitors for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected closure. The decision to close the beach was not taken lightly, but it was necessary to ensure public safety and to allow time for proper assessment and repairs. While closed the Department of Public Works removed a few dangerous trees and paved a section of the boardwalk.

We have taken many security steps to ensure the responsible wrong doers are held responsible. The beach gates will open at approximately 7:30 am and will be closed at dusk each day. New security cameras have been installed and as always no swimming is allowed when lifeguards are not present.

We are grateful for the patience and understanding shown by the public during this time. Our community’s support and cooperation allowed us to make necessary improvements and open the beach quickly and responsibly.

We kindly ask all visitors to remain vigilant and respectful of shared public spaces. If you see any suspicious activity, please report it to the Plattsburgh City Police. Protecting our local amenities is a shared responsibility, and together we can help prevent future incidents.

Mayor Wendell Hughes
