City awarded $1.88 million to invest in sewer capacity

(PLATTSBURGH- August 16th 2022) - The City was recently awarded $1.88 million from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Water Quality Improvement Program to increase the sewer capacity across the Saranac River near the Commemoration Footbridge. This will result in fewer combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges and additional protection of the public and lake.

This project will allow the City of Plattsburgh to improve the hydraulic capacity of the Commemoration Footbridge sewer. The project will reduce the number of combined sewer overflows and reduce the potential for public exposure and environmental impacts by increasing the hydraulic capacity of the present conveyance system. The award amount totaled $1.88 million with a $470,00 investment from the City of Plattsburgh. Construction is expected to start in 2023.
