City of Plattsburgh Announces the Launch of New Digital Platform for Community Engagement

[PLATTSBURGH, NY- March 29th 2023] - The City of Plattsburgh announced today the launch of my.cityofplattsburgh-ny.gov - a new digital community engagement platform, powered by CitizenLab. The platform will provide residents with a central online hub where they can learn about ongoing City projects and initiatives, share ideas, discuss proposals with fellow community members, and make their voice heard on the issues that matter to them.

Those who sign up on the platform will be informed of important project updates, such as the Margaret Street Project construction timeline, or Parks Renewal Project implementations via text or email. In the future, the City is looking to use the platform to source ideas from the community on additional projects that matter most to residents.

The City of Plattsburgh has a longstanding history of civic engagement and is excited to take it to the next level in launching this forward-thinking, digital solution. Community members can be informed and engaged wherever they are, whenever they’re available. Using this inclusive approach and innovative technology will make it easier for the public to become involved in City projects. Currently, the City has the Margaret Street Project and Parks Renewal Project posted and will be adding the Zoning Update project in the next month. Public comments are being solicited for the final draft of the Parks Renewal Master Plan through this platform now.

The goal of the platform is to include the community more inclusively and more often in local decision-making processes and to increase transparency about how decisions are made. Residents and stakeholders can use my.cityofplattsburgh-ny.gov to get informed, ask questions, and provide feedback about City initiatives. The Mayor of Plattsburgh and Common Council are registered users on the platform and will be using the platform to stay informed about resident and stakeholder ideas.

Mayor Rosenquest says: “A primary focus for our team has been increasing community engagement through social media outreach, updates to traditional media, and information gathering sessions. This approach has ensured our project teams hear from a diverse group of stakeholders which in turn helps us design and deliver projects that have a wider impact. The implementation of this engagement platform will help us grow our efforts of inclusion and ensure many more have the ability to engage the City on projects that are of importance to our residents and community members.”

“One of our City’s goals is to increase participation amongst groups of people who don’t often comment or provide feedback on City projects and initiatives. Maybe you’re a parent who can’t attend public information sessions in the evening, or your working hours conflict with Common Council meetings. How do you stay engaged in community decision making? We hope this platform will make it easier for more residents to join the conversation and make their voices heard”, said Courtney Meisenheimer, Public Engagement Coordinator.
