The City of Plattsburgh Fire Department is committed to providing the highest quality of public safety for our community through response to all fire, EMS, hazardous materials incidents, and rescues on land and water. The City of Plattsburgh Fire Department will
accomplish this mission by providing a team of highly‐trained, compassionate, motivated professional first responders dedicated to
the preservation of life and protection of property.
Founded in 1902 using horse drawn fire pumps and buckets, the Fire Department has served the citizens of Plattsburgh, and surrounding communities, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Although our equipment is now state of the art our duty to the community remains rooted in professional service.
The Plattsburgh Fire Department is comprised of 4 platoons who work a 24 hour on and 72 hour off work rotation. One
Fire Chief and one Assistant Fire chief oversee all operations and administration function, and are supported by one administrative
assistant.
The Fire Department responds to over 4000 calls for service a year, most of which are EMS and fire in nature. We also respond to confined space, hazardous material, swift-water and open water emergencies.
