(PLATTSBURGH- March 21, 2025) - Spring is here and that means it’s GreenUP time in Plattsburgh! In honor of Earth day, residents and students alike are encouraged to get outside in your neighborhood, local city or town park, the downtown district, SUNY campus or the city beach to pick up litter and organic waste, plant trees or flowers or learn more about how you can support our environment!
Participating is simple: Register yourself or your group for the clean up by visiting https://www.discoverplattsburgh.com/event/plattsburgh-greenup-community-clean-up and complete the short form. Registering for the event will enter you to win prizes and also help the city coordinate the clean up effort.
Garbage bags, gloves and paper yard waste bags will be available to pick up at City Hall, located at 41 City Hall Place and Town Hall, located at 151 Banker Road, between 9:00AM and 10:00AM.
Earth Day in Trinity Park
The Plattsburgh Climate Task Force will be hosting an Earth Day celebration in Trinity Park from 12:00PM-2:00PM. Join us in the park for an open mic, activities for children, and to meet the many local organizations working towards a greener community, such as Lake Champlain Sea Grant, Point Au Roche State Park, Cornell Cooperative Extension and many more! The City and Town of Plattsburgh will be hosting an Ice Cream Exchange! Mr. Ding-a-ling will be handing out free ice cream to those who drop off their bagged trash from the community clean up, while supplies last!
Tours of the Wastewater Treatment Plant
The City of Plattsburgh will be hosting a one hour tour of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Saturday April 19th at 10AM for anyone who is interested in learning more about how the city collects and cleans its wastewater.

This event is being coordinated by The City and Town of Plattsburgh, the City’s Climate Task Force, and SUNY Plattsburgh.

Elisha Bartlett, the City Climate Task Force Coordinator says, “Since 2019, the Climate Task Force has been advocating for and assisting the City in implementing Climate Smart and Clean Energy Community projects, culminating in the achievement of Bronze status in 2023. The key priorities outlined in the City's newly adopted plans—the Comprehensive Plan and Local Waterfront Revitalization Program—are directly aligned with CSC actions.These initiatives enhance resilience, reduce income and health burdens, and contribute to building a vibrant, thriving community for all. Join us this Earth Day to celebrate and show your support for a sustainable future!”
Please note that the community clean up is intended for public spaces in our community (sidewalks, parks, etc) and the Town and City of Plattsburgh will not accept refuse from residents personal homes. Garbage collected from public spaces can be dropped off at City Hall, Melissa Penfield Park, and Peter Blumette Park.
